The beginning of August I spent 4 days in La Romana (actually Bayahibe) on the southern coast of the Dominican Republic. I stayed at Dreams - La Romana, an all-inclusive resort.

Good and very good: Beautiful beach ('s better than Punta Cana). Super friendly staff. The spa was delightful! Free kayaking, woohoo!

Meh: Food was just okay for me. I did like that they had a little coffee shop. The latte was nothing close to what I normally drink. The room was just average. The mattress and pillows weren't that comfortable. At least with being on the third floor, the view was nice! The resort itself seemed a bit older, but it was kept in excellent shape (landscaping, etc.).

Bad: The infinity pool with the swim-up bar was filled with kids on rafts and playing games. The resort had several pools. I don't know why they couldn't make that one adult-only. It would have been much nicer. And to get a chair by the pool, you needed to grab one early in the morning and "save" it by leaving something on it. Otherwise, the only chairs to be had were on the beach. Oh, and they totally ran out of towels on the one day!! Seriously. How does that happen??

Downright ugly: Nada.

Would I go here again? Absolutely. Would I do a couple of things differently. You bet.

  1. I would pay the extra for the Preferred Club and stay in the Adult-Only section of the resort.
  2. I would fly a different airline. Spirit left me stranded in Fort Lauderdale on the way home. What a freaking nightmare! Guess I can check sleeping in an airport off of my bucket list...
  3. I would stay longer so I could take advantage of some of the excursions.
